Third International Workshop on Social Behaviour in Music (SBM2012)

The 3rd International Workshop on Social Behaviour in Music (SBM2012) will be held on October 26th, 2012 in Santa Monica, California as a satellite event of the 14th International Conference on Multimodal Interaction (ICMI 2012).

Motivations

Human-Computer Interaction has recently seen a growing interest of researchers toward social interaction. New disciplines emerged, such as, for example, Social Signal Processing (see also http://sspnet.eu). Human-Computer Interaction, that traditionally faced the development of (natural and multimodal) interfaces for the single user, is thus in front of a new research challenge, i.e., how to support the natural and multimodal interaction of multiple users with the computer, including the social interaction among these users. Research in Sound and Music Computing (SMC) can provide a great help in facing such a challenge. For example, current work on embodied coordination for social active listening to music tries to recover the embodied and social dimension of music listening. Foundational research on social interaction also founds in music an important test-bed for developing theories, validating models, and implementing algorithms. The 3rd International Workshop on Social Behaviour in Music (SBM2012) is an occasion for researchers and practitioners to meet and discuss about computational models and techniques for analysis and processing of social behaviour and emotion in music. The goal is to discuss current research, to identify research challenges, to show results, and to foster collaborations and future projects.
This edition of the workshop includes presentation of original work in the field and a final round-table, drawing conclusions and discussing directions for future research. The workshop is partially supported by the EU-ICT-FET Project SIEMPRE (http://www.siempre.infomus.org).
